Re: positive for lyme
It depends how bad it was before you caught it and got him/her on antibiotics. But yes joint pain is a big one. The dogs that have it bad enough were why are lame and sore a few times a month don’t have much for stamina in the field and end up dropping out early of races due to being in pain. joint pills help out but flair ups will happen and the dog will need to be put up for a while.

dogs testing positive for lyme
i have had three dogs over the years test positive for lyme . two of the dogs never showed any signs at all and lived to an old age . the other one i still have and gets lame once or twice a year but the vets can not say that it is lyme causing the lameness.i was told by the vet that once your dog tests positive for lyme they will always test positive even after treatment.good luck with your dog and i hope he does not show any signs of lyme.

Re: positive for lyme
Has your dog ever been vaccinated for lyme? Because, if dog has been vaccinated with some of the ealier vaccines it will test positive even tho it does'nt have lyme! The test will throw a positive response to the vaccine! Some of your honest vets will exsplain the error in better detail then I can! If dog does'nt show any ill affects from it,your probably throwing a false positive.Just another way some vets hit ya for fido!!!!!

Re: positive for lyme
i've had dogs test positive and seem to be ok after treatment.i've seen swollen joints and seen a friends dog collapse coon hunting from kidney failure with no warning.but my vet said it wont hurt the dog to treat them even if they dont have. doxicycline is relatively inexpensive.i think im going to start vacinating my dogs.its about 12.00 a shot if you order it online.

Re: positive for lyme
the dog tested positive for two strains bill, so i dont think we got a false pos. but i will look into it more with the vet. He is only a year and a half old and never has shown any signs of lameness. got him on the antibiotics and some kind of shot so we will just have to wait and see. thanks for the feed back guys and good luck to every one this weekend. oh yeah and happy 4th of july.

Lyme any ideas
My jake dog is very lame, limping on left front foot,( it's not a injury) I have seen this before I believe it's Lyme, I have him on antibiotics (doxycycline), I only have ten pills though, should this be enough to clear it up, or should I take him in and get him tested?

Re: positive for lyme
lyme disease is supposed to show up in multiple joints as an inflimation. In the studies ive read about the test its very inconclusive. I had a young dog tested while he went in for vaccs. and he came back positive, they gave me antibiotics for it. Never used them and the dog is great.I know other dogs that have it and its bad they lack the ability to run.Its like always having the flu.I give all my dogs the lyme vaccs. and use bio spot to repell ticks.

Do the Lyme vaccines work? And where do you get them?

Re: positive for lyme
Most dogs tested positive with the old vaccine......Kinda a double edge sword....Getting the older vac gave them a false positive....The pound of prevention is worth ten pounds of cure!
