Re: feed for the hounds
I use Retriever High Protien from Tractor Supply
during running season.
Seems to digest well and there muscle tone and
coat looks awesome. There stamina keeps them in the woods all
day have tried others and have not had any better luck
with any of them.

Re: feed for the hounds
I use diamond high energy I get at tractor supply . I try to get it on sale for 26 dollars a 50 pound bag . In the winter I try to add meat and fat scraps with warm water . Dogs seem to do good on it for a good price.

Re: feed for the hounds
I just switched over from the retriever tothe diamond high energy. Dogs seem to be doing. Its nice not having to feed 6 cups of food to the dogs. The waste is miminimal and not nearly as awful smelling.

Re: feed for the hounds
diamond high energy, you don't have to feed as much as the retriever and an occasional beaver doesn't hurt either.

A good guality dog food is good ,what ever brand. But fresh water all the time is the key to healthy dogs. I just switched to mixing the evening feed with hot water just to make sure they take on more

Re: feed for the hounds
I used the Diamond Hi-Energy on my bird dogs with great success. I've switched to 4-health (tsc) salmon and potatoes. There seems to be a boat load less smell. That Diamond HE could be smelled from 50 yards away when a dog dumped, whew! In the truck and house it was near lethal. 4-health is about a buck a pound but at least I can enjoy the dogs in the house and truck.
If your dogs run I make sure they get enough and as others have said i float their food now to ensure proper hydration.

Re: feed for the hounds
Hey this has turned into a pretty good conversation. It seems we all kinda feed along the same lines. I also like to add meat and my wife is able to get sandwiches from the store and they seem to be liking that.

Re: feed for the hounds
All my dogs are kenneled together so I just have one water pail tied to the fencing and put a bucket heater in it . Dogs have it available at all times but when I feed in the winter I do mix hot water and meat scraps in their food just to give them a hot meal they seem to like it and drink less from the pail of water.
