Your Help is Desperately Needed!
The Humane Society of the United States has already begun their campaign to ban bear baiting hounding and trapping and they don't even have a referendum petition yet. They are working cities like Portland handing out their misleading propaganda and signing up volunteers. Many of you are busy working and raising your families while the wealthy out of state anti-hunting lobby is working every day to take away bear hunting from Mainers even though we have one of the healthiest bear populations in the United States and one of the most respected bear biology programs in the world.
The Humane Society of the United States is deep pocketed thugs- and plays for keeps, see how they treated the Maine Guides and me recently: http://bangordailynews.com/2013/06/05/opinion/contributors/bear-knuckled-politics-come-to-maine/
They already have $3 million dollars to take away bear hunting and consequently, the $70 million dollars in jobs and economic activity bear hunting brings into our rural Maine economy. We need your help! If you're a guide and have sports in your camps, ask them for financial support. Spread the word to your friends and family about the HSUS and encourage them to decline the request to sign their petition.
Below you will find information on how to contribute to the campaign; in addition, the latest fact sheet written by biologists at the Department Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Please share it with your friends.
Please do not take this HSUS threat lightly they are here to take hunting away from you. Do your homework, the HSUS opposes all hunting, view their hunting policy at: http://www.humanesociety.org/about/policy_statements/statement_wild_animals.html
Their real agenda is to end hunting and protect large predators like bears and wolves, http://www.humanesociety.org/news/press_releases/2013/02/wildlife-protection-groups-great-lakes-wolves-suit-021213.html
so that someday hunters will be obsolete!

Leadership Counts-Anti-Bear Referendum Coalition Building
In response to the recent announcement that the Humane Society of the United States is planning to gather signatures for another bear referendum to ban hounding, trapping and baiting, we have begun building a coalition to oppose the referendum. Many leaders and organizations are publicly opposing the bear referendum. We will update the list in the SAM News and on our web site monthly. If your legislator is on the list, please thank them. It takes a lot of courage to lead on such controversial issues, Democrats, Republicans and Un-enrolled alike are putting aside their political differences to support our hunting heritage. Thank you!
