Good afternoon – As you probably know, this past Monday the F&W Committee voted unanimously “ought not to pass” on LD 223 (the Farm Bureau bill), so that bill is dead. They worked a long time on LD #559 (An Act To Protect Owners of Private Property Against Trespass) before tabling it. The next work session on that bill is scheduled for next Monday (April 4th). The bill appears fifth on the list of 13 bills scheduled to be worked at 9 AM. Given the nature of the first four bills on the list, I expect LD #559 will be worked before lunch, but I can’t guarantee it. If for some reason it gets held over into the afternoon, things get really complicated because there are five other bills scheduled for public hearing at 1PM. After those hearings, work sessions will likely continue on bills the committee didn’t finish in the morning. It looks like a very long day, possibly going into the evening. It would be good to have some of you there for that work session if you can make it. Just be warned that you could be there most of the day, so plan accordingly. If you can’t make it, I understand, and I feel confident we’ll come out of it in good shape. If you have questions or need additional information, let me know. Best, Skip

The bill was tabled again till Wednesday. It looks like they will require landowner permission to put bait out. They seem inclined to put a 6 dog limit on coyote hunting. Dogs will be required to have name and phone number on their collar. Paint to mark 'posted 'land will be purple with some time for the transition from silver.

Re: LD 559 monday april 4th 9 am
Looks like multiple decisions (RESTRICTIONS) being decided on this bill my wonder is if we can not police the laws or restriction currently on the list. What makes our highly paid legislative idiots think policing the newly created (RESTRICTIONS) any more policible then the ones that forwarded this issue in the first place???????

Re: LD 559 monday april 4th 9 am
I was told tonight that LD559 would not be worked on again untill monday the 9TH.
At that time I would think they will vote on it.

Thanks, there are some nasty rumors flying around just trying to stay on top of them. Is LD559 mostly about coyote hunting?

Re: LD 559 monday april 4th 9 am
Good evening – I just received notice that the F&W Committee will again be discussing LD #559 at their work session on Monday, April 11th. (LD #559 is the controversial landowner bill dealing with baiting and hunting coyotes with hounds.) The Committee has just about finished work on that bill and will probably only be reviewing the language that the analyst was instructed to put together for them. However, some of you wanted to be notified as to when that would happen. The work session is scheduled for 10 AM, and LD #559 is listed first on the work session schedule. However, there are also 4 Sunday hunting bills scheduled for public hearing at 10 AM. That means the hearings will go first, and the work session will start immediately after the hearings. I don’t expect a large number of people to show up for the Sunday hunting bills (which aren’t going anywhere), so the work session will likely begin sometime before lunch (although it’s difficult to predict what will happen, and it could possibly be after lunch before they get to it). See you tomorrow evening. Skip
